Building technology at a glance

Remote monitoring and control of your systems

The Lichtwart platform allows you to see whether there is a fault in one of your systems and, if so, what it is. This could be a failure of illuminated advertising or a leak in the washing system. You can also control lighting systems remotely using timer schedules, for example.

Reduce process costs

Automated notification of service technicians

A partial failure of your lighting system can lead to lost revenue. Undetected leaks, e.g., in a car wash, can quickly cost thousands of dollars. Lichtwart automatically sends error messages to technicians specified by you. This ensures that the right expert is sent to deal with the problem. Once they are on site, they can immediately rectify all detected faults.

Easy to use

Control your system at any time in your browser via desktop, tablet, or smartphone via the cloud.

Fewer technician visits

Lichtwart informs the appropriate technician about all existing fault reports—even those that employees have not yet detected.

Avoid revenue losses

Malfunctions are costly, especially when they go undetected. Lichtwart is your digital watchdog on site.

Protect the environment, increase chances of obtaining a building permit

Automatically reduce light emissions

The Immission Control Act imposes restrictive requirements on lighting systems. Lichtwart offers optional dynamic lighting control to adjust light intensity to ambient brightness. In addition, each lighting system can be controlled with a timer function. This increases your chances of obtaining a building permit and saves you electricity costs.

Lichtwart saves up to 60% of electricity costs through lighting control alone.

Industry Standard

The Lichtwart module is the heart of your system

The focus in developing the Lichtwart module was on robust and reliable technology that meets industry standards. The module was developed by Telekom specifically for use in electrical enclosures. The Telekom SIM card is used to regularly send measured values and receive new configurations.

What happy customers & partners say

As part of the brand relaunch at the beginning of 2021, VARTA redesigned its illuminated advertising. The decision was made to use LichtWart modules throughout. The reasons are simple: the technology enables optimal control of our illuminated advertising and helps us to reduce maintenance and operating costs. In addition, errors in the lighting are sent directly to the supplier of the logos so that the problem can be solved immediately. The reduction in light pollution thanks to the intelligent control system was also a convincing argument for us.

For HanseMerkur, responsible entrepreneurial action as a mutual insurance company is part of its DNA. Accordingly, the retrofitting of our prominent illuminated advertising system in Hamburg's Dammtorbahnhof station with a LichtWART module was a deliberate starting signal for more sustainable illuminated advertising.

The Lichtwart system allows us to support our station team remotely. Checking the station technology, restarts, and troubleshooting error messages are among the most common issues at stations. We save trips and thus avoid unwanted downtime!

Nico Arndt
Head of Technology, OKTAN

Thanks to Lichtwart, we know what’s lit on site or where exactly there are failures before someone at the station eventually informs us. This way I have my systems under control 24/7 and can plan service tours more efficiently.

What does the Lichtwart have to do with the building permit?

Building authorities must pay greater attention to compliance with the provisions of the Immission Control Act. Often, lighting for installations is prohibited or very strict requirements are imposed. Indicate the use of the Lichtwart in your building application to increase your chances of obtaining approval.

What is dynamic lighting control?

You are familiar with simple lighting control: when the ambient brightness reaches a certain level, lighting systems are switched off to save electricity. As soon as it gets dark, the systems are switched on. Our dynamic lighting control dims the light intensity between freely selectable minimum and maximum values depending on the ambient light: this not only saves electricity, it also improves the visibility of the systems at night and extends the service life of the LEDs.

What can the Lichtwart do that previous control systems could not?

Lichtwart was developed from scratch in collaboration with Telekom to make lighting systems smart, even away from standard electrical installations and without conventional internet connections. And with the Telekom Cloud of Things, you can control and monitor your systems from anywhere, e.g., with your smartphone, without intensive training or technical education.

When do I need the primary/secondary operation add-on?

Only if your image is important to you at night too! If part of your system fails, this is not visible during the day – but at night it can leave a bad impression if the company name or
logo is not fully visible. With primary/secondary operation, you can define important parts of the system, such as the logo. If an element fails here, all associated elements are switched off. However, if only a subordinate element fails, such as a light contour, only the subordinate elements are switched off and the rest, in this case the logo, continues to shine.

Do I need to install any software?

No, Lichtwart was developed on the Telekom Cloud of Things so that you can start controlling and monitoring directly in a browser and use it conveniently. No downloads or installations are necessary. With your personal access data and an Internet browser (desktop, tablet, or smartphone), you can connect to your systems from anywhere—at any time.

I already have a lighting system – can I retrofit Lichtwart?

Even existing LED illuminated advertising systems can be equipped with a Lichtwart. All that is required are DALI-compliant converters. If simple converters have been used, these can also be replaced. We are also working on hardware enhancements to enable historic neon systems and conventional systems with fluorescent tube lighting to be retrofitted with the Lichtwart.

Do I need a server or special hardware?

Our solution consists of the Lichtwart module, which is integrated into your system's electrical installation by a specialist company, and a Telekom cloud application that can be opened directly in a browser. You do not need your own servers or special computers.

Who can install the Lichtwart?

Ask the manufacturer of your illuminated advertising systems! If they are not yet familiar with Lichtwart, we will assist them in designing the systems and carrying out the installation.

What does the cloud offer me?

You can start by viewing the status of all your systems in the cloud. Whether you only operate illuminated advertising at your retail store or have an extensive branch network, Telekom Cloud of Things gives you an overview at a glance and automatically sends you messages about all malfunctions and their resolution.

How exactly are alarms sent automatically?

You can specify who should be notified by email for each system. For example, in addition to your company's facility management, the electrician and service technician can also be notified. Any number of recipients can be stored.

What can I control with the cloud?

You can set the brightness of the systems and adjust it conveniently at any time. With the timer for all days of the week and the calendar function, you can control exactly when the lighting systems are in operation. Have your lighting requirements changed? Then configure your system into any number of lighting zones and adjust the brightness and switching times.

Who has access to my facilities?

As system administrators and for installation and support purposes, Lichtwart GmbH employees have access to your systems. In addition, distributors and manufacturers of the systems are granted access for administration and billing purposes. And you can register up to ten different users at no additional cost to monitor and control your systems.

Light Management

All measures and systems for the needs-based, efficient, and convenient control of lighting. This includes:

  • Planning and regulating brightness depending on the time of day, ambient light, or activity
  • Zoning of lighting areas (e.g., fueling area, shop, rest area, advertising towers)
  • Energy-saving automation (e.g., switching off during daylight hours, dimming at night)
  • Integration of control technologies such as DALI, motion or light sensors, and remote access.

The aim of lighting management is to ensure optimal lighting for safety, orientation, comfort, and brand impact—while minimizing energy consumption.

Condition Monitoring

Condition monitoring of electrical consumers (e.g., leak warning systems, dispensing systems, air conditioning systems, heating systems, roller doors, etc.). The aim is to continuously record the technical condition, detect deviations or defects at an early stage, communicate them in real time via alarms, and predict maintenance requirements.

Energy Monitoring

Measurement and recording of electricity consumption data for electrical consumers. Used to analyze energy consumption and identify potential savings. Electricity data is transmitted to digital systems (e.g., energy management systems, EMS) using smart meters, which are digital electricity meters.

The combination with EMS is certified for ISO DIN 50001.

Easy Building Automation

EBA simplifies the automatic control and monitoring of central building functions such as lighting, heating, ventilation, separators, fuel pumps, alarm systems, etc. in gas stations. Operators can use the Lichtwart web interface to set individual rules, e.g., “If the temperature in the car wash rises above X °C, turn off the heating” or “Dim the lights in the shop at night.” In this way, EBA saves energy, increases comfort, and improves operational safety.

What kind of support is available?

The Cloud of Things is set up individually for each Lichtwart module and user accounts are created accordingly. Users can log in directly to the Telekom Cloud of Things and also use our ticket system and online manuals in the helpdesk. This support is included in the cloud tariff. We also offer web support for a fee. This can be used both stationary via desktop and mobile via tablet or smartphone.
